Bengaluru Diaries: a Hill and a Tree and a Dam in Half a Day...

After residing in Bengaluru (or Bangalore) for 2 years, I had tried exploring it as much I can. Since it is blessed to be in midst of hills on all 4 directions, it enjoys probably “the best” metro climate. And ofcourse, gives away lot of hills and rivers and viewpoints to explore. I have finally
Omkar Hills
decided to put down- “Places to visit in Bengaluru” and will start with the most recent visited ones from Bangalore Southà

#1. Omkar hills

This place is said to be the highest point in Bangalore. It is in RajaRajeshwari Nagar. When driving on Mysore Road from Bangalore, take the left at Uttarahalli Main Road, drive past the BGS Apollo hospital and then take the right next to JSS College. This road goes to the top of Omkar Hills. Omkar Hills has a dwadasha jyothirlinga (caution: elders are bound to get more & more devotional/emotional/sentimental!) temple and Ashram which was founded by Shri Shivapuri Mahaswamiji.

You’ll enjoy the strong breeze here and the panoramically view of the city is super awesome. Just behind the temple is world's second largest clock, said to be bigger than the Big Ben, the clock
Dodda Alada Mara
tower in London, and its making took two years.

Upon climbing a few steps you can see an old banyan tree surrounded by statues (Ramanujacharya, Shankaracharya, Madhwacharya, Jesus, Koran, Buddha, Mahaveera and the Guru Granth Sahib) representing various faiths/religions and singing aloud strong message of unity in equally strong blowing wind.

#2. Dodda Alada Mara or Big Banyan Tree

This tree is a giant 400 year old located in the village of Kettohalli. Before you google this village, it is really easy to access the place if you can identify a small road next to Rajarajeshwari Dental college (near Kumbalagod junction)! This single plant covers 3 acres.  In the 2000s, the main root
Manchinbele Dam
of the tree succumbed to natural disease, and thus the tree now looks like many different trees with over thousand aerial roots.

The tree has fenced boundaries, and benches for people to sit. There is a small shrine, many monkeys, some lays and soothing shades- good picnic place indeed!

#3. Manchinbele Dam

This beautiful dam is constructed by Sir M  Visvesvaraya which is around 9 km s further ahead from Big Banyan tree (don't miss the left at Chandrappa Circle). River Arkavathi forms the back waters of the Manchinbele Dam. You’ll find a couple or two government appointed watchman’s eating your head and money! This place suffers from govt.’s poor tourism showcasing- not much publicity, no maintenance, lack of connectivity, lack of proper security and lifeguards. Apart from that, really wonderful place to be!
On Top of Dam

#4. Ruppi’s Hotel & Resort

This is a place run and owned by Kannada film industries famous Real Star, Upendra. I visited this place for a short snack after visiting Dodda Alada Mara and Manchinbele Dam. This is just a km away from Dodda Alada Mara. Onion pakoda and onion rings that we ordered along with the chai were just delicious. Interiors, cottages, playgrounds and restaurants- all have looked good to me in my first impression. I have promised myself to visit this place again to explore!
Ruppi's Hotel & Resort

I recommend you to cover all 4 places mentioned above in the order- 2,3,4,1! Will take less than half a day and to be at Omkar hills at around 7.30pm will be the best thing to do! It’ll energize you for the rest of the coming week, guaranteed!

No greens,
Cloudy & Chirpy,
I set out to search,
White flowers...
Bangalore had Blossomed,
Red flowers...
Green flowers...
Blue flowers...

Trip to God's own Country

I have never written down a story with poems. Or a poem with stories. It had to come together one day. I didn’t see it coming. So I packed my bag. Joined eight wonderful friends. Feeling good on going for a vacation and breaking away for same old work, terrible traffic and boring daily choirs, we raced to embrace the nature, towards couple of very exciting place that I had always kept hearing, in God’s very own Country, Incredible Kerala!

Friday night, we caught Kallada travels to Alappuzha, a.k.a, Alleppey, the Venice of the East! Smell of humid air was welcoming after we got down 10kms past our destined drop point on Saturday morning. We had to travel back 28kms before we checked in at The World Backwaters in West Kumarakam. Sight of Pool Lake, boathouse, never ending backwaters and my first poem of the trip…

Rowboats those are tied
Aren’t on a sail today…
Nor is my daily struggle…
Still emotions, Still water…
Bound by the lush greenery…
I see the flow of Universe,
In the color of flowing reflections…
Of mine, of the water, In my tied boat…
After the refreshing paddle boat rides, I took time to teach swimming to four of my friends. This was the first time I ever taught swimming. Next morning, same friends pulled me out of bed to pool! We had hired a 12 seater tempo traveler for 3 days. We visited Alleppey beach in the evening, one of the very steep sea I have been to, in the sand we constructed a tunnel like structure with names of all nine of us scribbled in it, visitors also clicked snaps alongside it and an astonishing remains of an old bridge…

I saw a bridge to sea…
Today the remains were left!
Sun was past the red horizon…
Post the past, past my present…
Breeze blew off the remaining remains,
With those memoirs and smell of sand…
Silverlight jungles my house glitter,
In the buzzing roar I walk away…
Today bridge has lost its shine…
I saw its way to sea, And I walk away…
The sight of backwaters from our cottage made our day. Rest of the time was spent on badminton, dumb charades, antakshiri and cycling. 72 hours that we spent on this trip, most of us caught no sleep or very less sleep. Tranquility was being enjoyed to every bit and there was no need for any liquor to get our minds swinging! Sunday morning we were on our way to Munnar, place of Blue Mountains, from sea to top of hill, from humid weather to drizzling cold atmosphere…

Melodies of flute
Singing those tunes of life…
They lost the sun glasses,
Resistant to the heat and the glare…
I flew with clouds…
Kissing tall green trees…
Uncovering red petaled leaves…
Uncovering beauty and peace…
Burning tiredness in camp fire…
And it rained… On my face…
It rained…
In Munnar, we visited a garden with spices and area specific flora and fauna which included those wild orchids locally called Neelakurinchi which blooms once in 12 year. After a pinch of gyan on herbs and shrubs, it was time to enjoy the weather it is known for, drizzles of summer, we checked in at AyurCounty Resorts in Devikulam. It was located beautifully midst tea plantations and sky kissing mountains. On Monday morning, we did explore them and opted for Elephant safari. With a friend playing popular tunes in his flute and others singing along, with bag full of homemade chocolates, spices and memories, with those heartwarming conversations in our pockets, we boarded the SRS Travels, en route Bangalore, at evening 5pm. As we climbed down the Ghats, drizzling slowed down, nature started unveiling the beauty it hid, aroma of the blessed soil and then came my final words…

Mist had blurred my vision…
Of that all I see are blue peaks…
On a crimson morning where
Sunlight is pleasant…
Pond of water through tea palms
Brought the aroma of spices…
I took a deep breath…
Saw through the picture,
With the canopies of Nilgiri hills…
I closed my eyes…
Into a clear vision…

Dolphin pod..

Image- Symphony,By Admin

Snowy song
Rises from the sea
Shore calms tides

Dolphin pod
Crafting symphony
 Leaps to sky

Huntsman marks
Poor soul reap riches
Guns wisdom

If we look around, our ecosystem is really a wonderland. Time again, man has repeatedly hurt it. To an extent that our fellow beings have become extinct. With wisdom, save the world, save our friends!

Giant wheel..

Philospoher's Stone
Image-by Admin,@Wonder la, Bengaluru.

Clock ticks eight
Strolling under moon
For your glimpse

For your glimpse
Heart skips a beat- in
Giant wheel

Giant wheel
Eyes meet to follow arc
Ups and downs

Attempt to use Giant wheel as a metaphor for 'love'. It takes a full circle. There are moments where it skips our heartbeats. A image also being depicted here- A boy sitting in the wheel coincidently looks into a girl standing down and end up living ups and downs of life!

Fifty sensations..

Beach footprints
Fifty sensations
Lord, steer Stone

This Haiku is written for The Heights Of Haiku - April 2012. Thank you for having no prompt today!

Freedom of joy, freedom of expressing and freedom of enjoying voidness had made me start this blog. After the fiftieth post, the happiness remains the same. With every post, blog evovled, got better. Like the footprints in the beach, every wave that came in, that left behind corals in it. Friend, heartfelt thanks for your encouragement, help, support, comments, likes, criticisms. Lord, steer the Stone!

Angel..

Unusual, people complain the world is blue..
I see a canvas in front of your brown eyes..
That has me painted in it, in a countryside road..
The occasional twinkles and the shines, amuses me..
Mother of creation, as you have always been..
To the beautiful things that I see, that exists..
I run to catch a glimpse of palette that you have..
The white, had green, had blue, had red, then white..
I know to discover the magic you flaunt and boast..
Picture shaping up, had a smile, a white smile..

Take a breath..

Moving trees made me realise the splendor of nature..
Perl of fresh air had given me a hope to breathe..
To the song which I sing will be sung in a new sanity..

Drizzling rain had a story to say, a beautiful story..
Sparkling glimpses of raising clouds from the valley..
I lean to a blackstone just to inhale this magic..
Mesmeizing waterfall was added to make it perfect..
The time spent in search of the existence looked valuable..
I was not discovered, I had a breath to breathe..

Is it the beginning..

To leave a place for the eternity, is a art..
A bird wasn't told it's place, nor where it belongs..
It had the open sky to fly and the melody to sing..
Barren terrains had them the sweet water to feed ..
So what are we, mere puppet of the scenario..
Great actors of fairytale that we make..
Sprinkle of joy has inspired the journey..
As it's only about the number of breathtaking moments..
Hence I sit to figure out the diversity, true flavors..
Stories that start has to have the perfect ends..
I breathe, in the dilemma, of the new beginning..
